Jane Barnes wrote for the The New York Times, co-wrote a documentary on the Mormon church that aired on PBS, and contributed to Dialogue magazine.

Jane also co-wrote a two-part, PBS documentary with Helen Whitney. The video, a co-production of American Experience and WGBH Frontline, spans four hours and originally aired on PBS on April 30 and May 1, 2007.

Dialogue magazine — “a journal of Mormon thought” — Vol. 41, Num. 1 – Spring 2008 featured an 11 page essay by Jane Barnes about her experiences during the production of The Mormons, and Jane also shared her personal experiences of growing up with a fascination for Joseph Smith.
